ID Requirement
Regardless of your role, you must present a valid U.S. government issued photo ID to receive your card.
Accepted Forms of ID
Examples of accepted forms of ID include:
- Active driver’s license or state ID card issued by any U.S. state or territory
- Active U.S. passport or passport card
- Active Canadian drivers license or passport
- Foreign passport with active U.S. visa
- Active U.S. green card (permanent resident card)
- Active U.S. military ID
These items will NOT be accepted as valid IDs:
- A photocopied ID of any kind
- An expired ID of any kind
- High school ID
- ID from another college or university
- Foreign passport without U.S. visa
- Foreign driver's license
GWorld Card Photos
Photo must be from the top of the shoulders to the top of the head with some space above the head and sides. Eyes must be open and visible. Straight face or smile. No props or hand gestures allowed. No shadows on the face, no glare on glasses or red eye.
All photos are taken in accordance with the U.S Department of State Passport Standards. You may only wear a hat or head covering if you wear it daily for religious purposes. Your full face must be visible and your head covering cannot obscure your hairline or cast shadows on your face.
The GWorld Office can send you an electronic copy of your photo upon request, to request this service please send us an email from your GW email address. We apologize if you do not like your GWorld photo, but unfortunately we do have to charge a $25.00 replacement fee to retake your photo. You can take a new photo when replacing your card for any reason.
Card Usage Policies
Do not punch a hole in your card. A hole punch will destroy your card's functionality and you will be charged $25.00 to replace the card.
Do not lend your GWorld card to anyone else for any reason. Doing so could result in your card being confiscated and disciplinary action for both you and the person you lent your card to.

Card Care Recommendations
Keep your card in a secure card case or your wallet to help ensure that you do not lose it.
Try not to bend or put excessive pressure on your card. Doing so could damage the internal card chip and cause your card to stop working.
GWorld Cards to VSTC Campus
If you are a member of the GW Virginia Science & Technology Campus community and cannot come to the Foggy Bottom GWorld Card Office to issue your new/replacement card, you can request your card to be shipped to the VSTC Campus. To submit a card be sent to the VSTC campus, submit your photo online, and in the pick-up instructions, select the "VSTC" option. Cards are sent every Tuesday and Thursday and are available for pickup at the Enterprise Hall lobby.
